Why most of your files never leave your device
How browser-based processing works, which tools run on your device, and what that means for private documents like contracts and IDs.

Most Filekit tools run entirely in your browser. When a tool page shows Processed on your device, your file is opened, changed and saved by code running on your own computer or phone. It is never uploaded.
How it works
Modern browsers can read files you choose, run fast code in WebAssembly and save the result without a server. Merge PDF, Split PDF, the image tools and the recorders all work this way.
When a server is used
Some jobs need software that cannot run in a browser, such as converting Word files or compressing PDFs with Ghostscript. Those tools show Processed securely, deleted after 1 hour. Your file is uploaded over an encrypted connection, processed, and then deleted automatically within an hour. Only you get the download link.
What we keep
We keep anonymous counts of how often each tool is used. We do not keep your files, and IP addresses are stored only as one-way hashes.
For contracts, IDs and other private documents, choose tools marked Processed on your device whenever you can.
